At the Mid-Atlantic Steel Fabricators Association, we continually strive to make a difference by supporting events like the AISC/ASCE Student Steel Bridge Competition. This year, ASCE and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) partnered to host the Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC) as part of the ASCE Student Symposia held at Penn State University.
The SSBC challenges students to apply their classroom knowledge to a practical, hands-on steel design project. It helps them develop interpersonal and professional skills, fosters innovation, and builds meaningful connections between students and industry professionals.
Each student team designed a scale-model steel bridge to span approximately 20 feet and support a 2,500-pound load, in accordance with competition rules. Teams had to plan how to fabricate their bridge and execute an efficient, timed assembly at the competition. Bridges were also load-tested, weighed, and judged on aesthetics.
We recently received a heartfelt thank-you note, and I wanted to take a moment to share our gratitude with you. We could not have supported this incredible event without the generosity of our members. Thank you for your continued support of the Association!
