On November 7th, Mid-Atlantic Steel Fabricators Association had an opportunity to engage with engineering students at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. Hope Hrabowy from AISC and Scott Vesper from our association had the wonderful privilege of presenting and highlighting structural steel—the best and most versatile building material.
We dove deep into crucial topics such as material and size selection, the Code of Standard Practice, the feasibility of joint configurations, and the importance of designing with coatings in mind. We also explored the transformation of steel and highlighted the fantastic resources offered by AISC, along with an exploration of sustainability commitments through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
The enthusiasm and engagement from the students were truly inspiring, showcasing the potential they hold as future engineers. We extend our gratitude to professors Islam Mantawy, Ph.D., PE, and Hamdy Farhoud for creating an inviting atmosphere that bridges academia and industry. Let’s continue to advocate for such collaboration, as these initiatives are essential for the growth and advancement of our vibrant steel fabrication community!
