On November 19th, Mid-Atlantic Steel Fabricators Association had an opportunity to present a technical session on steel fabrication essentials to the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers Youth Members Group.
Scott Vesper (Southern New Jersey Steel) and Tony Baffone (MSI FAB LLC) from our association collaborated with Hope Hrabowy (AISC) to develop and organize the session.
The session illustrated the steel fabrication process, offering architects and engineers a comprehensive understanding from start to finish. Through three targeted sections, participants learned how contract drawings are transformed into fabricator shop drawings, discovered key strategies for seamless collaboration with fabricators, and explored the fundamentals of Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) standards. The course concluded with a hands-on session using mobile arc hand welders, providing practical experience with fabrication.
A big thank you to Mark Ordorizzi, Ricardo Munoz-Rojas, Andrew Ng, and Hope Hrabowy for their help with planning, and to everyone who joined us for making it such a memorable event!
